 Why:

Purpose of grading: Progress towards the standard, transparency, consistency, equity, and inclusive. Grades should be used to provide students with feedback and options for mastery of criteria/standards.

What:

Grades will fall into three categories

  • Summative:  Final unit assessment  (Weighted at 60%)

  • Formative:  Assignments leading up to the unit assessment, warm-ups/exit tickets, lessons/activities, labs, quizzes (weighted at 30%)

  •  Work habits: Homework, Safety Contract, Syllabus, Participation, Behavior/professionalism, silent reading log (weighted at 10%)

How:

  • All scores entered into the gradebook will be on a 1-8 IB/MYP scale rubric as developed in the unit planner.

  • Students can retake and revise summative assessments at least once for an improved score.

  • If a student fails to turn in an assignment it will be flagged as missing (default to 50%) in the gradebook.

  • Students will not be scored down for turning in work late during that unit of learning.
